Custom saunas, Los Angeles

A sauna built into the house, not bolted on.

Akopi Builders builds custom saunas for homes across Los Angeles: cedar, hemlock, and wood-fired saunas, designed and built into the home and engineered like the rest of it, by a licensed general contractor (CSLB #1112420).

Est. 2014 CSLB #1112420 Led by Hovik Akopyan Bel Air to Malibu

What we build

Cedar, hemlock, wood-fired.

Heat-rated assemblies, hidden ventilation, controls that disappear. Cedar and hemlock benches, or a wood-fired stove where the room calls for it. Built into the home and engineered like the rest of it, not a kit dropped into a closet.

Part of a wellness wing.

A sauna is the heat in a larger ritual: heat, steam, cold, rest. Pair it with a steam room and a cold plunge and we sequence all three in one engineered wellness suite built into the home.

Questions

Sauna permits in Los Angeles.

Does a home sauna need a permit in Los Angeles?
Usually, yes. A traditional sauna heater runs on its own 240-volt circuit, and in the City of Los Angeles a new circuit needs an electrical permit from LADBS. A sauna built as a new room or as a separate outdoor building, or one that adds a shower or a drain, also needs a building or plumbing permit. A plug-in infrared cabin on an existing outlet usually needs none. Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Malibu and other cities run their own building departments, so the rules follow your address. We pull the permits.
